Kensaku Morita

Kensaku Morita ( Japanese 森田 健 作 , Morita Kensaku ; born December 16, 1949 in Ōta , Tokyo Prefecture as Suzuki Eiji ( 鈴木 栄 治 )) is a Japanese actor and politician. He has been the governor of Chiba since 2009 .

Life

Morita, a graduate of Meiji Gakuin University , began his acting career in 1969 in the Shōchiku film Yūzuki . He then also played several leading roles in television series . In the 1990s he switched to politics: From 1992 he represented the Tokyo prefecture in the Sangiin , the upper house, for an electoral term . In 1998 he won the by-election in the 4th constituency of Tokyo in Shūgiin , the lower house, for the hanged Shōkei Arai . Morita belonged with interruptions to the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). In the 1990s, he was, among other things, Parliamentary State Secretary ( seimujikan ) in the Okinawan Development Agency and in the Ministry of Education .

In the Shūgiin election in 2003 , Morita no longer stood to apply for a governor's post. In the gubernatorial elections in Chiba 2005, he challenged incumbent Akiko Dōmoto and was defeated by just under 6,000 votes. When Dōmoto did not stand for four years later, he won the election on March 29, 2009 clearly before Taira Yoshida, who had been supported by the opposition parties at the national level, and three other candidates. He took office on April 5, 2009.
