Kentarō Nakamoto ( Japanese 中 本 健 太郎 , Nakamoto Kentarō ; born December 7, 1982 in Yamaguchi ) is a Japanese long-distance runner who specializes in the marathon distance .

Life

Nakamoto took eighth place in the 2010 Beppu-Ōita marathon with a time of 2:11:42 hours . The following year he was Lake Biwa Marathon in fourth and qualified with an increase of his personal best to 2:09:31 hours for the World Athletics Championships in Daegu . There he finished tenth in 2:13:10 hours and secured second place for the Japanese team together with Hiroyuki Horibata (7th place, 2:11:52 hours) and Yūki Kawauchi (18th place, 2:16:11) World Cup ranking behind Kenya.

After a fifth place in the Lake Biwa Marathon 2012 in 2:08:53 hours, Nakomato was nominated for the Japanese Olympic selection. At the Olympic Games in London he surprisingly finished sixth in 2:11:16 hours. In the following year he confirmed his strong performance with a second place in the Beppu-Ōita marathon in a personal best of 2:08:35 hours and fifth in the World Championships in Moscow with a time of 2:10:50 hours.

Nakamoto attended Takushoku University . He starts for the company team of the electronics company Yasukawa Denki and is trained by Naoki Yamagashira.
