Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) is a Kenyan authority based in Nairobi whose responsibility includes civil air traffic control and the regulation of the aviation industry in Kenya.

The agency also offers training and further education for aviation personnel through the East African School of Aviation .

history

In 1946 the colonial governments of Kenya, Uganda , Tanganyika and Zanzibar founded the East African Directorate of Civil Aviation (EADCA). With the collapse of the East African Community (EAC) in June 1977, the East African countries established their own civil aviation authorities. On December 16, 1977, the Kenya Directorate of Civil Aviation (DCA) was established.

On October 24, 2002, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) was set up as an independent body and thus took over the agendas of the DCA.

Responsibilities

The authority's responsibilities include developing, managing and regulating a safe, economical and efficient system for civil aviation in Kenya.

This includes, among other things, the performance of air traffic control tasks and the provision of the necessary infrastructure, flight safety , licensing of flight services, registration of aircraft registration numbers , investigation of aircraft accidents and disruptions, aviation security , technical regulation and certification as well as advising the government on issues civil aviation.
