Keri (Swedish: Kockskär ) is an island in the Baltic Sea off the north coast of Estonia in the Gulf of Finland .
Keri forms an archipelago with the nearby islands of Prangli and Aksi . Keri is 6 km north of Prangli and is Estonia's second northernmost island after Vaindloo . The area is 3.1 hectares .
The island belongs to Viimsi Municipality ( Harjumaa County ).
history
Keri was first mentioned in 1623. In 1719 a lighthouse was built on the orders of Tsar Peter I. The current lighthouse was put into operation in 1803 and reinforced with a metal attachment in 1857. The island has been uninhabited since the last lighthouse keeper left in 2003.
The wreck of the Kaleva passenger plane , which was shot down by the Soviet Air Force in 1940, lies on the seabed near Keri .
