Core banking system
Core Banking System (CBS) or core banking system is a name for a computer system that maps the core processes of a bank ( core banking ) within information technology.
It is software that is usually installed on a particularly high-performance computer or a network of computers and that actually manages and processes the data. Mainframe systems with operating systems such as z / OS or BS2000 are usually used as the platform for core banking systems, which often contain a lot of Cobol or assembler code .
Core banking systems are required to electronically handle typical core processes such as the administration of savings, loan or checking accounts. In principle, the way it works is similar to that of other data processing software: data from customers, partners, etc. is processed according to certain, previously defined rules, whereby a complete business process is processed here (for example, a credit approval from entering the first customer data to credit scoring to Contract generation, the calculation of interest and the creation of account statements and statistics).
