Kerretta is a New Zealand rock band from Auckland . The band members are bassist William Waters, drummer H. Walker and guitarist David Holmes. The band's musical style is compared to that of the bands Mogwai and Russian Circles . Often Kerretta is assigned to the music genre post rock . Like many bands in this genre, Kerretta does without vocals.
history
Kerretta was founded in mid-2005, consisting of the members Avotor (H. Walker), Meterman (William Waters) and David Holmes, who was active as a producer of bands such as Jakob and An Emerald City . The first release, the single Death in the Future / Wisnierska , was released in December 2007 on Midium Records .
At the beginning of 2008 the EP Antient was recorded with the producer Dale Cotton. At the same time, Kerreta were the opening act for bands like The Breeders and … And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead and were invited to festivals like Big Day Out . In 2009 the self-produced debut album Vilayer was released on the German music label Golden Antenna . This was followed by a nomination for the 2010 Taite Music Prize , the New Zealand equivalent of the British Mercury Prize , and a tour with the Japanese post-rock band Mono . In 2010, Kerretta toured North America with a performance at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin , Texas.
In 2011, the second album Saansilo was released on Golden Antenna Records. A European tour followed in winter 2012. In spring 2013, Kerretta were on a European tour again. In August 2014 the band released their third album Pirohia .
