description

Kersten Miles Bridge around 1900, north side, in the background the former building of the Deutsche Seewarte

The bridge is about 90 meters long and about 20 meters wide across the two-lane carriageway with sidewalks on both sides. It is also part of the ensemble of cultural monuments in Hamburg with property number 30212 / Am Elbpark.

Construction of the bridge began in 1895 and was completed in 1897. It was named after the former mayor of Hamburg, Kersten Miles . There are statues of Kersten Miles, Simon von Utrecht (south side), Berend Jacob Karpfanger and Ditmar Koel (north side) on the base of the bridge . The statues were created by Carl Boerner (Miles), Carl Garbers (Utrecht), Wilhelm Giesecke (Koel) and Robert Ockelmann (Karpfanger). In 2014 mosaics with artistically paved tendril ornaments were discovered below the bridge.
