Kevin Armstrong (singer)

Kevin Armstrong (* 1975 in Nelson , Canada ) is a Canadian opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Armstrong studied singing with Winston Purdy at McGill University from 1996 to 2001 . He completed his studies with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Master of Music in Opera Performance . He also attended master classes with Thomas Hampson and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf .

He made his first stage experiences in his hometown Nelson as Colline in La Bohème . In Canada he has worked at the Opéra de Montréal , the Montreal International Fringe Festival , the Opera in Concert in Toronto and the The Banff Center for the Arts .

His career in Europe began at the International Opera Studio of the Zurich Opera House. Here he worked with well-known artists such as Leo Nucci , Nello Santi and Ádám Fischer . So far he has worked at the Bremen Theater , the Zurich Opera House , the ThunerSeespiele , the Schleswig-Holstein State Theater and the Bad Hersfeld Festival .

After more than 40 engagements in the baritone field , Armstrong switched from baritone to tenor. He trains his voice regularly with Damien Whitely in Zurich and Alessandro Amoretti in Bremen. His repertoire includes the hero tenor roles Max in Der Freischütz , Don Jose in Carmen and Calaf in Turandot .

In his title role in Ritter Blaubart (summer 2007 in Frankfurt am Main ) by Jacques Offenbach , he was recognized for his "beautiful warm timbre and his vocal band winking decorations" in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and his "high vocal level and ... acting qualities" in the Frankfurter Neue Presse praised. In autumn 2008, his participation in the production of Jesus Christ Superstar at Le Théâtre Kriens-Luzern as Pontius Pilatus was praised with the words "It gets really hot when the powerfully voiced Kevin Armstrong starts" ( Luzerner Zeitung ).

Kevin Armstrong also publishes his own rock and ballad compositions as well as Sing-A-Song-Writer. He plays both classical guitar and electric guitar.

As a screenwriter, cameraman, director and actor, Armstrong has been involved in various short films.
