The Kewet EL Jet with type numbering 1 to 4 (from version 5: Citi-Jet) is a three-door electric vehicle or electric car manufactured by the Danish company Kewet Industri . After the bankruptcy in 1998 and the move to Norway, the vehicle and the name it had bought from version 6 was changed to Kewet Buddy .

However, there are still numerous Kewet 1 to 5 in operation in the Federal Republic. The vehicle is small and therefore fits into small parking spaces, often in the transverse position. The mass (1 to 5) was 740–840 kg (including lead batteries, approx. 260 kg), plus approx. 160 kg to 250 kg of possible payload.

history

The Danish industrialist Knud Erik Westergaard (KEW) has been very successful with KEW cleaning machines and industrial washing machines since 1971. He then sold his company in 1988 and began designing a small affordable electric car. The first Kewet rolled out of the production line in Hadsund / Denmark in 1991.

Since then, around 800 Kewets of different models - all looking pretty much the same except for the color - have been produced in Hadsund. A larger production line was set up in 1995 in Nordhausen / Thuringia. About 200 vehicles were produced before production closed again. Problems with the German authorities and insufficient sales of the vehicles meant that "Kewet Industri" and "Kewet Sales" had to file for bankruptcy in 1998. Then a company was founded ("Kewet International") to move production back to Hadsund. This did not happen, however, which enabled the Norwegian dealer "Bil A / S", meanwhile "Elbil Norge A / S", to buy the production line as well as the parts inventory and the naming rights to "Kewet" in autumn 1998.

particularities

  • The vehicle has a hot-dip galvanized tubular steel frame and a polyester body with ABS parts.
  • EL Jet 1 and EL Jet 2 have a four-speed manual transmission with reverse gear.
  • From the EL Jet 3 onwards there was a compound motor without a manual gearbox, which, however, caused relatively high wear due to the factory setting. The problem was solved with the El Jet 4.
  • The vehicle can accommodate up to three people thanks to its seating arrangement of a standard size seat and a wide seat. The prerequisite is the presence of three separate seat belts .
  • Many add-on parts come from series vehicles from other manufacturers.
  • 12 vehicles were produced as so-called CityVans.

Technical specifications

The maximum speed of the vehicle is 65 to 80 km / h, the range - depending on the state of the battery, driving style and route profile approx. 40–60 km with lead-acid / gel batteries , which with 4 blocks (each 12 V, 192AhC5) approx. Weigh 250 kg. 250 kg can be loaded. The turning circle is 7.49 m, the tires are size 145 / 80R1375T. The power consumption is approx. 10 -17 kWh / 100 km; this corresponds to about 0.8 to 1.5 liters of petrol . The charger (Zivan K2) has 1.5 kW / 230 V ~, which corresponds to 25 A on the secondary side. The 12 V on-board network supplies the lamps and displays via a converter (48 V = / 20 A → 12 V =). Only the electric heating works with 48 V =.
