The Khaitan Sporting Club ( Arabic نادي خيطان الرياضي, DMG Nādī Ḫaiṭān ar-riyāḍī ) is a Kuwaiti football club from Khaitan , a suburb of Kuwait City . It was the first club to win the second division of its country, Kuwaiti Division One , as champions.

history

Since the club was only founded on June 13, 1965, but the first division had been running since the 1961 season, the team was divided into the second division of the country. For the 1966/67 season it started for the first time in the Premier League . With only 4 points from 10 games, it then went down again as bottom of the table, where the team should stay for the rest of the decade. In the 1970/71 season, the championship title in Division One could be won again. The later season in the first division you survived this time without subsequent relegation to the penultimate place, but only with 5 points from 12 games. In the next season they went back to the second division with only 2 points and a goal difference of 11:44 in 7th and last place. In the 1973/74 season the championship title could be celebrated again, but this time they did not rise. This should not change until the end of this decade.

After the 1978/79 season, all teams from Division One were then incorporated into the enlarged Premier League. This first season could then be finished in 11th place. After the 1984/85 season, a second division was introduced again. With the 13th place you landed a league lower for the next season. There was no further ascent. In the 1991/92 season, all 14 clubs in the country were divided into two groups in the Premier League, Khaitan went into Group A and finished there in 5th place at the end of the season. That’s what happened again in the second division next season. In the 1993/94 season, the club was the last time champions. However, since the leagues were merged again in the 1994/95 season, promotion before that was a sure thing. This season, Khaitan ended up in 8th place in the table with 31 points. The next season should be the most successful so far. With the 3rd place the team secured a place in the play-off round for the championship title in the Premier League, in addition, a bonus point was added by the table position. In the play-off group, however, the club only finished 5th after 10 games. The 1996/97 season ended again without a play-off round. The team reached only 9th place this season. That should continue to develop until the 1998/99 season. Here they ended up only in 13th place, in the subsequent play-off group for the championship even with only 2 points from 8 games on the rearmost place. In the next season, the lower half of the first division rose again. Khaitan was also among them with 12th place.

In the next few years promotion was no longer possible and the club was ranked in the back of the second division. The leagues were only merged again for the 2003/04 season. This season the club got a point average of exactly one point per game and finished the league in 9th place. After the 2005/06 season, the club then rose again due to the 12th place. Due to the 2nd place in the 2010/11 season, Khaitan was able to play a decider for promotion. However, that game was lost 2-1 to al-Salmiya . For the 2013/14 season, the team went up again by merging the leagues. This season the club ended up in 9th place in the table. After the 2016/17 season, the division of the leagues over the 12th place went down again. The team is currently still playing there.
