Khiry Lamar Shelton (born June 26, 1993 in Fort Carson , Colorado ) is an American football player .
Career
Youth and college
After his youth stint at Lonestar SC, he began college soccer at Oregon State University with the Oregon State Beavers in 2011 . He started the first six games of the season before being sidelined for the rest of the season due to an injury. In his second year he scored four goals in fifteen appearances, which he also managed in his third year, but only needed ten games.
professional
In the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, he was drafted as the second pick in the first round by New York City FC . There he also had his first professional appearance in Major League Soccer when he came on as a substitute for Mehdi Ballouchy on March 8, 2015, the first matchday, in the 1: 1 away draw against Orlando City in the 62-minute game . After two years in New York, he moved within the league to Sporting Kansas City .
After one season, he made his first move abroad and he joined the German second division club SC Paderborn 07 . At the end of the season, he and his team celebrated promotion to the Bundesliga .
After a total of two appearances each in the first and second Bundesliga, he moved back to his home country in January 2020 and rejoined Sporting Kansas City.
National team
Shelton completed three games for the U-18s of the United States Football Association and four games for the U-23s .
