Kibungo is a town in Ngoma District in the Eastern Province in Rwanda and was until the dissolution of Kibungo province capital in 2006 the same. Kibungo is about 100 kilometers from Kigali on the main road to Tanzania . In 2008, Kibungo had 48,137 residents.

The population lives mainly from agriculture. Products are beans, corn, sorghum , bananas and vegetables. Cattle, goats and sheep are kept for this purpose.

Kizito Bahujimihigo was bishop of the Catholic diocese of Kibungo until 2010 . There is also a much smaller Anglican diocese.

The place has a hospital and a university for agriculture, technology and education.
