The Eastern Province (in Kinyarwanda Intara y'Iburasirazuba , French Province de l 'Est , English Eastern Province ) is a province of Rwanda . It was formed with the introduction of a new administrative structure on January 1, 2006 from the former provinces of Kibungo and Umutara, most of Kigali Rural and part of Byumba. The Eastern Province consists of the seven districts Bugesera, Gatsibo, Kayonza, Kirehe, Ngoma, Nyagatare and Rwamagana. Its capital is Rwamagana . According to the 2012 census, the province has 2,595,703 inhabitants.

Other cities are Umutara and Kibungo . The Eastern Province borders Uganda in the north, Tanzania in the east and Burundi in the south .
The terrain rises from south to north. The Kagera Nile flows through the province and forms the border with Tanzania in the east.

- in Akagera National Park: Ihema Lake , Kivumba, Hago, Mihindi, Rwanyakizinga
- in the central highlands: Muhazi
economy
The most important branch of the population is agriculture and animal husbandry, of the latter especially dairy farming. The production of processed products from the agricultural products cassava and bananas is to be promoted. The main problem of agriculture in the province are dry periods, in the northern part also erosion .
Soon all districts will be supplied with electricity. The Kagera National Park is attractive for tourists .
