The Kieldrechtsluis (German: Kieldrechtschleuse) in Antwerp is a lock in the port of Antwerp . It connects the Waasland Canal with the Deurganckdok and the Scheldt , on the left bank of which it lies. Until the opening, the structure was managed under the name Deurganckdoksluis (German: Deurganckhafenschleuse). With a length of around 500 meters and a width of 68 meters, it is the largest lock in the world. It is suitable for ships with a draft of up to 17.8 m. The Kieldrechtsluis is to relieve the Kallosluis , whose dimensions are no longer sufficient for large ships.
construction
The construction of the traffic structure, which cost around 382 million euros, began on October 24, 2011. The construction work was in the hands of a merger of the companies Jan De Nul , CEI De Meyer , Betonac , Herbosch-Kiere and Antwerpse Bouwwerke. The lock gates were built at Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) in Shanghai. A total of around 795,000 m³ of reinforced concrete and 22,000 tons of structural steel were used. The lock was flooded on April 27, 2015. The inauguration took place on June 11th and 12th, 2016.
