history

The company was founded in 1869 by Adam van der Wal as a carpentry shop in Groot-Ammers , the Netherlands . In 1927 the family business, which had meanwhile grown into a construction company, was renamed NV Bataafsche Aanneming Mij van Bouw- en Betonwerke v / h company J. van der Wal en Zoon . From this naming, Bataafse Aanneming Maatschappij and then the abbreviation BAM remained. Since 1990 the company has only operated under the name BAM.

Origin of name

The word Bataafse is Dutch and means Bataver in German . This was a West Germanic tribe that settled in what is now the Netherlands in the 1st century AD. One of the founder's first major projects was the construction of the Bataver Petroleum Company's headquarters in The Hague . After completion, the name was incorporated into the company name. The term Aanneming means construction company and Maatschappij means society.
