Keiji Kikkawa

Keiji Kikkawa ( Japanese 吉川 圭 二 , Kikkawa Keiji ; born October 1, 1935 in Shimane Prefecture ; † July 1, 2013 ) was a Japanese theoretical physicist.

Kikkawa studied at the University of Tokyo , where he made his bachelor's degree in 1959 and his master's degree in 1961. He received his doctorate in 1964, then remained as a researcher at the University of Tokyo until 1966, after which he was at the University of Rochester and the University of Wisconsin as a research associate. From 1970 he was an associate professor at City College of New York and from 1974 at Osaka University . From 1979 he was a professor at Hiroshima University .

Kikkawa was one of the pioneers of string theory , with whom he had been working since the late 1960s in collaboration with Bunji Sakita , Miguel Virasoro and Michio Kaku .
