Kilian Stobæus

Kilian Stobæus ( pronunciation : [ ˌɕiːlian stoˈbeːɵs ], born February 6, 1690 in Vinslöv , Hässleholm municipality ; † February 17, 1742 ) was a Swedish doctor and scientist .

Live and act

Kilian Stobæus studied from 1709 at the University of Lund and received his doctorate in medicine there in 1721. In 1728 he became professor of philosophy, medicine and natural history in Lund and from 1732 also of history. In 1735 he was the rector of the university.

Kilian Stobæus was one of the teachers of Carl von Linné . Stobæus collected all sorts of natural history curiosities and founded the Stobæanum Museum in 1735 , which he donated to Lund University. He also owned an extensive library.
