Killepitsch is a herbal liqueur with 42% alcohol from the liqueur factory Peter Busch GmbH & Co. KG from Düsseldorf .

While Killepitsch was initially a herbal liqueur only known in the Düsseldorf area, which was served in local pubs and for sale in retail outlets in the region, it is now known beyond the borders of Düsseldorf and is exported to 14 countries worldwide, for example the USA and to Japan.

In Dusseldorf Killepitsch was particularly in the small tasting room "Et Kabuffke" in the Goldener Helm in Flingerstraße opposite the brewery Uerige known, where it can still be tasted. In addition, the manufacturer operates another taproom in the Carsch house .

According to the manufacturer, the recipe is still a closely guarded family secret today. 98 different essences made from herbs , berries and fruits from all over the world are used. After mixing the extracts, the so-called Killepitsch premix has to be stored in old clay pots for another year. After storage, the herbal mixture is processed into the finished liqueur by adding alcohol, water, sugar and caramel. Due to its ingredients, Killepitsch is very dark, its taste is bitter-sweet, although the sweet impression predominates. Every year around one million liters of Killepitsch are produced (as of 2005).

The name came about during the Second World War in an air raid shelter in a conversation between Hans Müller-Schlösser , the creator of " Schneider Wibbel ", and Willi Busch, where Busch allegedly said:

Ech sach dech just ens Hans, koome meer he heal erus, dat se ons nit kille, then need ech dech ö Schabäuke, you can de Zong noh lick, then dommer eene pitsche on dä can then call mech us Killepitsch!

This name was used in 1955 when the “Et Kabüffke” pub opened for the liqueur, which is still known today, and is also served to passers-by from a small window.

Killepitsch has been produced in the new glass factory in Düsseldorf's Medienhafen since 2005 . The old production facilities in Düsseldorf's old town had become too small.

Killepitsch is the title of the song with which the rappers Blumio and JayJay celebrated a drinking tour through the old town of Düsseldorf in 2012.
