Killer Kane was a rock band formed in 1975 by former New York Dolls bassist Arthur Kane . The band released a 7-inch single the year it was formed and then broke up. Best known member, next to Kane, was the later WASP singer Blackie Lawless .

history

The band was founded in Florida in May 1975 by former New York Dolls bassist Arthur "Killer" Kane after the New York Dolls broke up. He took Blackie Goozeman, later known as Blackie Lawless, as the singer. Lawless, who became popular with WASP, had previously taken on Johnny Thunder's role as singer on the last tour of the New York Dolls. Kane moved the band to Los Angeles after the formation of the group occasionally called the Killer Kane Band . Other members were guitarist Andy Jay of Motor City Bad Boys and drummer Jimi Image, who later played with Lawless in the group Sister .

Killer Kane released a three-track, 7-inch single in 1975 called Mr. Cool . On the A side of the record was the title track, on the B side the two songs Long Haired Woman and Don't Need You . The single was recorded live late at night and passed on to Whiplash Records by Kane without the consent of the other band members . Despite a positive review of his time with Killer Kane, Andy Jay complained years later that he had never received royalties for the recording. The single remained the band's only release. After a few appearances in 1975 and 1976 in the greater Los Angeles area, the group split up due to a lack of interest and little success. At the group's last appearance in Los Angeles, Kane played “like a dead man” after the other musicians had already left.

Lawless recorded the song Mr. Cool with his band WASP in 1985 for the album The Last Command in a slightly rearranged form and with the title Cries In The Night . Drummer Jimi Image was one of eleven guest singers (including Lita Ford ) on the 1989 WASP album The Headless Children who contributed backing vocals for the piece Thunderhead . Arthur Kane died of leukemia on July 13, 2004 at the age of 55 .
