Arthur "Killer" Kane (born February 3, 1949 in Bronx , New York City , † July 13, 2004 ) was an American musician who became known in the 1970s as the bassist for the glam rock band New York Dolls . His nickname refers to a character from the science fiction series Buck Rogers .

biography

Arthur Kane grew up in the American state of New York . From 1970 he was part of the line-up of the legendary glam rock band New York Dolls , with whom he released two albums in 1973 and 1974 before the band finally broke up. In 1975 he founded with the later WASP singer Blackie Lawless in Los Angeles the band named after his nickname Killer Kane , with whom he released a 7-inch single. Kane was also a member of the bands Corpse Grinders and The Idols. In 1989, Kane converted to Mormonism . In June 2004, the New York Dolls reformed for a gig in which Kane also took part. A month later, he was examined in a hospital on suspicion of pneumonia . It was leukemia diagnosed. Arthur Kane died on July 13, 2004 at the age of 55.

Appreciation

Morrissey , the former president of the New York Dolls fan club, described Kane after his death as " very gentle soul " ( Morrissey , German: "very gentle soul"). Robyn Hitchcock dedicated his album to Kane Olé! Tarantula the song NY Doll . The documentary "New York Doll" was shot about Kane and was nominated for the Satellite Awards and the Jury Award of the Sundance Film Festival in 2005.
