Killian Hayes (born July 27, 2001 in Lakeland ) is a French - American basketball player .

career

Hayes' father, the American DeRon , played as a professional basketball player in France, where he met his French wife Sandrine, Killian's mother, who also played basketball. He was born in Lakeland , Florida, in the same hospital as his father DeRon. He discovered his son's basketball talent early on and encouraged him. Hayes often spent vacations in his father's homeland.

Hayes went through the youth department of Cholet Basket and became French champions with the U18 club. Although he passed the exams for admission to the French national competitive sports base INSEP, he stayed in Cholet on the advice of his father. In 2017, he took part in the “Jordan Classic Brand Global” in the United States, a selection game with some of the world's most talented young players of his year, where he shared the award for the best player of the match with the Canadian Addison Patterson . On the advice of his father, he did not implement his wish to move to the United States and play there first on a school and then one of the well-known university teams. His father assessed the funding opportunities for his son in France better than those in the USA. On the sixth match day of the 2017/18 season, he made his debut in the French first division, the ProA, in October 2017. In 2018 Hayes was named the best player in the French youth tournament “Trophée du Futur”. Since Hayes did not accept his appointment to the U20 national team in the summer of 2019, he was banned by the French association for league games between September 20 and November 1, 2019.

At the beginning of August 2019 he was signed by the German Bundesliga club Ratiopharm Ulm and given a three-year contract. At the end of March 2020, he announced that he would be enrolling in the NBA's June 2020 draft proceedings . In 20 Bundesliga appearances for Ulm during the 2019/20 season, the starting player scored an average of 11.6 points and provided an average of 5.6 assists in the basketball successes of his fellow men.

National team

In August 2017, Hayes averaged 16.6 points, seven rebounds and 5.1 basket assists per match at the U16 European Championship, led the French selection to win the European Championship and was named the best player of the tournament. In the summer of 2018, he won the silver medal with France at the U17 World Cup and was voted among the top five players at the event.
