Killingbeck Island (in Argentina Isla Cerrito , in Chile Isla Jiménez ) is a small island in the archipelago of the Adelaide and Biscoe Islands off the Loubet coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . In the Cole Channel , it is east of Rothera Point off the southeast coast of Adelaide Island .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1964 after John Basil Killingbeck (* 1936), glaciologist at the British Antarctic Survey from 1960 to 1963. The name given to the Argentine name is the Battle of Cerrito on December 31, 1812 in the Argentine War of Independence. The namesake of the Chilean name, however, is Héctor Jiménez I., a participant in the 5th Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1950–1951), during which he dived in the ice-cold water after two lost anchors .
