Remains of Kilpeck Castle

Kilpeck Castle is a ruined castle in the village of Kilpeck , about 15 km southwest of Hereford in the English county of Herefordshire and about 8 km east of the border with Wales .

On the western edge of the village was the little motte , which was built around 1090 as the administrative center of Archenfield . Few walls from the 12th and 13th centuries still stand on the mound today , but they are not exactly in good condition. You can see parts of an open fireplace with a vent, as well as two sections of the castle walls. There are still some earthworks around the mound .

About two kilometers north of the castle ruins you can find the mound of another castle on the grounds of Didley Court Farm .

To the east of the castle ruins is the SS Mary and David's Church , a Romanesque church that was built around 1140 and is famous for its stone carvings.
