Kim Bu-sik (* 1075 ; † 1151 ) was a historian and politician at the time of the Goryeo dynasty. His main work is the Samguk Sagi ( 삼국사기 [samk'uks'agi] , 三國 史記 ), in German the " Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms ". Along with the Samguk Yusa, it is the most important work in the early history of Korea.

Life

Kim Bu-sik came from a noble family whose ancestors were related to Silla's royal family. He was born in 1075 in Gyeongju, the capital of Silla . In 1096 he applied for an office. After passing the entrance examination Gwageo ( 과거 [kwagə] , 科擧 ), like most of Yangban's sons, he went through the usual official career. From 1120 he became increasingly involved in political power struggles. When Myocheong started a coup in 1135 , he successfully fought the rebels on behalf of the king.

He owes his fame in posterity to the historical work Samguk Sagi handed down under his name .
