Kim Jung-hyuk (* 1971 in Kimch'ŏn , Kyŏngsangbuk-do ) is a South Korean writer .
Life
Kim Jung-hyuk was born in 1971 in Kimch'ŏn, North Kyŏngsang Province . He made his literary debut in 2000 with his work Penguin News (펭귄 뉴스). Although he has not been a long-time writer , he is already recognized as one of the writers who will help shape the future of Korean literature.
Kim has worked in a wide variety of professions, including writing book reviews for an online bookstore, managing DVDs for an art-focused bookstore, writing music columns for a pop culture magazine, and writing a magazine from the restaurant industry. He is not only interested in literature, but also in films, music and food, among other things. He also does the illustrations for his books himself and occasionally works as a freelance caricaturist. In his author profile in the book Penguin News , he describes himself as a collection of countless Lego bricks. The various Lego bricks that make it up consist of writers like Fyodor Michailowitsch Dostojewski , Raymond Carver and Ryū Murakami , bands like The Beatles and The Velvet Underground and film directors like Tim Burton and Alfred Hitchcock .
Kim writes about banal objects, unusual people and unknown music, establishing himself as an author who opens his readers' eyes to the warmth and importance of analogue sensitivities in the digital age.
