History and culture
The Kimilsungia was grown in 1964 by an Indonesian gardener in Makassar from a Dendrobium Ale Ale Kai and a Dendrobium Pompadour and registered with the name Dendrobium Clara Bundt . In 1965, the then President of Indonesia Sukarno dedicated the plant to North Korean President Kim Il-sung on the occasion of a state visit.
Every year in April the Kimilsungia flower show takes place in Pyongyang , at which, in addition to the Kimilsungia, the Kimjongilia , bred on the occasion of Kim Jong-il's 46th birthday , is presented.
In one scene of the Arirang mass dances , the actresses reproduce Kimilsungias. The pistils are each represented by soldiers.
