Kimura Ihei Shashin-shō
The Kimura Ihei Shashin-shō ( Japanese 木村 伊 兵衛 写真 賞 , Eng. "Kimura-Ihei Photography Prize", Eng. Kimura Ihei Memorial Award of Photography ) is the most important recognition for artistic photography in Japan . The namesake of the award, Kimura Ihei (1901–1974), was a famous Japanese photographer in the 20th century.
Asahi Shinbun has awarded the prize annually since 1975, with the exception of 1983. The publisher is the publisher of the daily Asahi Shinbun and the photo magazine Asahi Camera
The prize is awarded to both amateur and professional photographers whose award-winning work has been exhibited or published within the previous year. The award was intended to be given to one photographer each year, but practice has shown that two or even three (2000) were found to be worthy of the award at the same time.
A medal and prize money of 100 million yen will be presented . The jury is made up of professional photographers, one of whom is the publisher and another is the editor-in-chief of Asahi Camera magazine. The laureates will be announced in its May issue and online.
In addition to the Kimura Ihei Shashin-shō, there is also the Domon Ken Award, which is also given to photographers.
