Heinrich Velde

Heinrich Velde studied from 1847 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, the subject of architecture ( architecture ) and then became Royal Railway and Operations Inspector . As an architect, Heinrich Velde mainly designed high-rise buildings for the Lahn Valley Railway and the neighboring Rhine Valley route .

According to a design by Velde, numerous standardized reception buildings were built along the Lahn Valley Railway from the middle of the 19th century . Velde designed a total of 37 train stations and was also responsible for the construction of stops, station keepers' houses and tunnel portals. The second Höchst station from 1880, which replaced the first station building from 1839, is considered to be his architectural masterpiece in railway construction . The railway stations in Bad Ems , Diez and Weilburg have been preserved . The Rüdesheim am Rhein station, which was renovated in 2007 , was built by Velde in the classicist style from 1854 to 1856 . The former Biebrich-Mosbach train station (today: Wiesbaden-Biebrich train station ) can also be traced back to Velde's plans, as does the Mittelheim station building in the Rheingau .

Velde also worked as an architect for individual buildings outside of the railway construction; Among other things, he led the construction of the new Catholic parish church St. Georg in Oberreifenberg from 1853 to 1855 and designed the Feldberghaus on the Großer Feldberg , the foundation stone of which was laid in 1859.

family

Heinrich Velde's father was the master tailor Johann Heinrich Velde. Heinrich Velde's brother, August Velde (* March 4, 1829; † 1904) was involved in the Turner movement during the German Revolution of 1848/1849 , later worked as a lawyer in Diez and co-founded the Nassau-Selterser Mineralquellen AG in Oberselters .

One of Heinrich Velde's sons, Dr. Gustav Velde (* March 21, 1865; † July 4, 1920) accompanied the German expeditionary corps during the Boxer Rebellion as a military doctor and wrote several medical reports on his experiences there. Heinrich Velde's daughter, Julie Velde (born January 3, 1869 - † July 4, 1965) helped shape the German women's movement and was among other things at the private girls' school and what later became the Schmidt Lyceum (today: Anna Schmidt School ) in Frankfurt am Main Has worked as a teacher for many years since the school was founded in 1889 .
