history

The Catholic brick Gothic church of St. Johann im Schnoor was built as a monastery church in the 14th century. The monastery buildings were demolished in the 19th century. In 1965 a row of two-storey red-stone-faced houses were built on the monastery grounds for the St. Johannis Provost according to plans by Wessel. The buildings have been a listed building since 1973.

Today's three-storey, six-axle, plastered, U-shaped corner house with two pitched roofs for the two rear gabled houses and the two portals was built in 1820 in the classicist era as a residential and office building for the businessman Johann Henrich Buschmann and probably for Senator Albert Hermann von Post built. The two rear gabled houses were originally two-story half-timbered buildings. Mighty Gothic vaults in the cellar have been preserved.
In 1968 the Catholic parish carried out a major conversion into a day-care center.
Today (2018) the building is used for Catholic social institutions (Kita and Haus Lea ).

Kolpingstrasse (formerly Gartenstrasse ) was named in 1950 in memory of the Catholic priest Adolph Kolping . The name Schnoor ( Snoor ) means cord :. He came through the ship's trade and the production of ropes and ropes (= cord)
