action

At the Battle of Camlann, King Arthur is killed by his own son Mordred. As he dies, the king asks his loyal knight Sir Bedivere to bring the legendary Excalibur sword back to the sea goddess who gave it to Arthur. Nineteen years later, Sir Bedivere led a life in exile. When the lawless drifter Owain takes away a lord's gold treasure, he is searched for everywhere. Sir Bedivere allows the young man to escape when he pulls the guards on him. However, a little later Owain is also overwhelmed and the two men meet again in the dungeon. There Sir Bedivere realizes that he has found Arthur's illegitimate son.

Owain is sentenced to death for his crime. The seriously wounded Sir Bedivere commits suicide a little later. Owain is stabbed by two guards shortly afterwards and thrown into the nearby lake. Then the sea goddess appears to him in a vision, heals his wounds and hands him the mighty sword Excalibur. Again among the living, Owain takes revenge on the guards and allegedly also kills Mordred, who is immortal due to the Holy Grail. His mother Morganna sacrifices young women and both drink their blood from the Grail. Since Owain appears invincible in a duel, they blackmail one of the young women, Ada, into killing her younger sister if she cannot take the sword from Owain. With alcohol, Ada manages to obey Owain. She knocks him out and steals the sword.

Ada gives the sword to Mordred, but they only give Ada freedom and sacrifice her sister. In desperation, she goes to Owain and confesses everything to him. Together they come across Merlin, who gives Ada his staff. Owain and Mordred fight in Mordred's fortress. During the fight, Mordred stabs the sword into the sacrificial stone and, since he is the false son of Arthur, he can no longer pull it out. Owain takes this opportunity, pulls out his sword and kills his half-brother. Meanwhile, Ada turns Morganna off with the rest of the young women. Through the staff and the grail she also succeeds in bringing her sister back to life. In the end, Arthur is crowned king.

criticism

“Fantasy action trash about King Arthur's legacy. Drama is almost as difficult as comedy. When it is properly gurgled, it becomes involuntarily funny - as in this debilitating desecration of the Arthurian legend: After Arthur's death, his illegitimate son Owain has to prove himself as a successor ... Excalibur, an old loyal knight, Merlin, witchcraft and Saxony - unstable Directed ulp Antony Smith with his amateur actors from what little, but stupid, occurred to him. Conclusion: This C-film wields a blunt sword. "

The film got an audience rating of 28% on Rotten Tomatoes .
