Kingston

Kingston is both the name of a suburb and a region near Hobart on the island of Tasmania in Australia . The city is located 15 kilometers south of Hobart in hilly terrain on the Channel Highway . Kingston is also the administrative seat of the larger Kingborough Council . The city lies along the Browns River , which flows into the Derwent River on Kingston Beach. It is the fastest growing region in Tasmania.

history

Before the European colonizers came to this area, about 300 Aborigines lived and fed around the Derwent River. a. of the fish in the river. They called the river "Promenalinah".

In 1804 the botanist Robert Brown visited this area. The Browns River , which flows from Mount Wellington to Kingston Beach , is named after him. The settlement took place in 1808 by Thomas Lucas with his family, who came from the Norfolk Island , and the country quickly developed through more numerous settlers who spread over what is now Kingston. In the early years the area was named after Brown, but as the population grew and the city's industrial park established, Kingston was declared a city in 1851. Since the city has developed economically in the recent past, most of the residents work there.

Around the place there are remarkable landscapes for leisure, which can be reached by short drives. The Kingston region includes Blackmans Bay and Kingston Beach.
