Kingston on Murray is a settlement in the east of the Australian state of South Australia . It is located in the Riverland region on the south bank of the Murray River .
Kingston on Murray is part of the Loxton Waikerie Council Local Government Area , the Chaffey state constituency, and the Division of Barker federal constituency .
The 2016 census counted 317 residents.
Origin of name
The settlement was named after Charles Kingston , who was the 20th Prime Minister of South Australia from 1893 to 1899 .
traffic
The Sturt Highway used to run through the settlement, but is now guided on a bypass and crosses the Murray River on a bridge. Before the bridge was built, there were two rope ferries that transported cars across the river.
