Cinema (movement)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kino [ kiˈno ] (from ancient Greek κίνησις kinesis for movement ) is an international movement of filmmakers .

Concept and dissemination

Its members ( French: kinoïtes ) meet monthly in locally organized groups, show their predominantly non-commercially produced films on screen and give each other feedback. The screenings are open to the public and are also used by non-members to present their films, as every film they bring should be shown.

The cinema movement was founded in 1999 in Montréal by Christian Laurence . Even today, the Canadian province of Québec is the region with the highest density of local groups. The cinema movement is active in over seventy cities around the world.

Outside Canada, there are cinema branches in the USA and Mexico , in several European countries (including Germany , Austria and Switzerland ), in Benin , Réunion and Senegal as well as in Australia .

Cinema cabaret

The Kino Kabaret [sic.] Is a meeting of kinoïtes , young filmmakers and professionals from all over the world. The aim of the meeting is to produce a short film in small groups within 48 or 60 hours. It's not about a competition or an evaluation of the films, but about having fun in filmmaking and learning from one another. At the end of this time, the films will be shown in a public cinema. With the usual 50–100 participants, around 15–40 short films between 5 seconds and 10 minutes in length are created. Often there are several of these rounds in a row, for example 3 × 48 hours, so that a cinema cabaret lasts around a week. Sleep deprivation and film editing until shortly before the respective screening characterized this way of working. The art of improvisation and spontaneity are in the foreground. The vast majority of short films of this type manage almost entirely without a budget. Hence the motto of the cinema movement: "Do well with nothing, do better with little and do it right NOW!"

Kinoïtes often travel to other cities or even countries especially for the cabaret cinema. The local participants usually offer sleeping places (couch surfing), which again shows that the focus is on community and the shared joy of filmmaking.

Sometimes the screenings consist of silent films that are accompanied by live music, thus reflecting the beginnings of film history.

Some cinema cabarets take place in the run-up to an existing film festival on site, at which the cabaret films are then shown out of competition (Dresden, Vienna, Hamburg).

In Germany there are cinema cabarets once a year in Dresden (April), Hamburg (May, except 2014), Mainz (July / August), Jena (August) and Berlin (August / September). In May in Austria a cinema cabaret in Vienna Short Film Festival Vienna Independent Shorts instead.

Kino Berlino

Kino Berlino is next to the Hamburg cabaret the largest cabaret cinema in Germany. The Berlin group KinoBerlino has existed since 2004. In cooperation with the Interfilm Berlin Festival, numerous gems worth seeing were created in November 2005. In September 2006, enthusiasts from Germany, Canada, Poland, Belgium and the UK met again at the ACUD . In a warm-up, silent films were made within one day for poems and prose lines from the magazine Amplifier No. 16. The following week, the topics were pulled out of the hat for cabaret. KinoBerlino has developed into a nexus for freelance filmmakers and every year attracts over 100 creative people to KinoKabaret, which has been a guest at the ELOK youth club since 2009. In addition, there are monthly open film screenings in the Moviemento cinema. The groups inspired by KinoBerlino include teams in Prague, Warsaw, Prizren, Moscow, Dublin, Rome, Graz and other cities.

more cinema cabarets

Since 2006 there has also been an annual Kino Kabaret in Mainz with a steadily growing number of participants. There are other very successful groups in Hamburg, Dresden, Jena and Munich. In 2014, for the first time, there will be no cabaret cinema in Hamburg because the “Gängeviertel” location is being rebuilt. In Stuttgart, the student cinema Filmrausch is currently trying to organize its own annual cabaret. The Kino Kabarets in Vienna and Jena call themselves "Kino Dynamique" instead of Kino Kabaret.
