Passion cycle

The church of Oberbuch in the municipality of Gmünd in Carinthia was first mentioned in 1455. It was profaned as a Catholic branch church consecrated to Maria Magdalena . In 1987 the building, which is owned by the Glawischnig-Hofer family, was consecrated again after a complete restoration and has been used as a preaching station by the Evangelical parish of Eisentratten since 1988.

Building

The church is a small probably Romanesque hall building with late Gothic and Baroque changes. The wooden roof turret was only erected in 1996. The church consists of a choir with a 3/8 end, a single nave nave and a pillar vestibule. The end of the choir is bricked up inside and accessible through a door, the front yoke is barrel-vaulted and the nave has a flat roof.

The wall paintings of the church were made around 1470/80. On the west facade Maria Magdalena is depicted with two angels in a keel-arch frame and above the Mother of God with child and the saints Elisabeth and John . Two angels with Veronica's handkerchief can be seen above the pointed arched west portal . On the south facade, next to St. Christopher, a nine-part Passion cycle is depicted, which dates from the second quarter of the 14th century.
