The high altar

The St. Oswald Church is a Catholic church in the village of Nußberg, Frauenstein municipality in Carinthia . She is the St. Oswald and a branch church of the Obermühlbach parish . It is about 3 km north of Sankt Veit an der Glan near the road to Steinbichl at the foot of the castle hill of the Nussberg castle ruins .

history

Today's church was built in 1739 instead of a previous building first mentioned in a document in 1372. From 1596 to 1675, the rule of Frauenstein had bailiwick rights over the church.

Building

The single nave nave has a retracted choir with a round apse . The tower on the south side of the choir is essentially Gothic, divided into three floors by smooth and rough plaster.

Facility

The high altar carved from linden wood by Johann Pacher (at least from his workshop) around 1740 is not colored. Depicted is St. Oswald flanked by Saints Benedict , Liborius , Valentin and Antonius as life-size figures. The essay shows the Holy Trinity , above it stands the Archangel Michael . On the north side of the nave is a side altar from the end of the 17th century with a more recent Madonna and Child.

The carved pulpit (JG Hittinger, 1779) is also missing. There is a statue of the Good Shepherd on the cover . A field of the basket shows the sower as a relief - remarkable: in the background the devil sowing weeds again can be seen.

The north and south sides of the choir have galleries with wrought iron parapets.
