Church Werder

The Werder Church is a church building in Werder in the Mecklenburg Lake District . It belongs to the Siedenbollentin parish in the Demmin provost of the Pomeranian parish.

history

The parish in Werder was assigned to the Archdeaconate of Stolpe in 1308 . This is the oldest surviving mention. The current church was built around the 14th century. A baroque renovation was probably carried out in 1751, as indicated by an inscription on the outer wall.

The square western roof tower was built in 1890 according to plans by the architect Theodor Prüfer .

architecture

Walsleben coat of arms on the south portal

The church was built from field and brick . It has a three-sided, slightly indented east end. The plaster of the building has largely peeled off, and remnants of plaster blocks can still be seen at the corners . Above the south portal there is a relief of the von Walsleben family's coat of arms , including the inscription "ES vW / 1751".

There are four pointed dormer windows on the north and south sides of the roof, and another above the east end, with a conical pinnacle on the ridge and a roof pommel . Similar, but smaller, pointed dormers are located on the four sides of the pyramid roof of the tower spire .

Interior

The church has a wooden beam ceiling. The wooden interior is warm and harmonious. The altar has a low cross and barriers. There is a pulpit with a shed, a patron's box with the coat of arms of the von Maltzahn family and a western gallery with an organ. This was built as a salon organ in 1860 by Barnim Grüneberg from Stettin with rich decorations of putti and symbols for a private house and came to the church at a later date. It has two manuals and a pedal. The font is made of industrial stone .

The stained glass window in the eastern part shows a resurrection scene with a coat of arms for von Maltzahn. The bell was cast in 1920 by Voss & Sohn from Stettin.

The churchyard is used as a cemetery, with a cemetery mourning hall. There is a winter church in the rectory.
