Church of Our Lady Queen of Poland (Olsztyn)
Today's Roman Catholic garrison church in Olsztyn (Allenstein) was built from 1910 to 1915 as a Protestant garrison church. Located opposite Allenstein Castle on the other side of the Alletal , the neo-Gothic church has been a listed building since July 1, 1988.
history
The church, whose foundation stone was laid on May 4, 1910, was built according to a design by the Berlin architect Ludwig Dihm . After the outbreak of the First World War and the fighting in East Prussia delayed completion, it was put into use in 1915. In 1923 a memorial stone was erected for the 1st Masurian Infantry Regiment No. 146 and the 1st Masurian Field Artillery Regiment No. 73 .
The church was damaged by a shell during World War II .
Today it is used as a Polish military church.
architecture
The church is a neo-Gothic brick church with stepped gables , which is based on the brick Gothic architecture of the Teutonic Order . In 1987 the building was renovated, the original interior of which has largely been preserved.
organ
The organ was built in 1914 by the Wittek organ building company in Elbing. The instrument has 43 stops on three manual works and a pedal . The actions are pneumatic.
