The Romanesque building, erected around 1250, was built from hewn granite blocks. Remains of the original windows can be seen on the north and south facades and on the choir .

The late Gothic tower that was added later and the church porch that was built at the same time are built with whitewashed granite and bricks. The tower is covered with monk and nun brick, which is quite rare in Denmark. The roof tiles were also retained during the renovation carried out in 2000. On the north side of the tower an iron staircase leads to about half the height. They are followed by stairs in the interior. In 1801, wall anchors were drawn into the tower for stabilization, which also serve as decorative elements. The bell bears the inscription: Gloria exezelsis Deo me fecit Friedrick Holtzmann, Haunia 1706 .

The nave is 12.8 m long, 6.4 m wide and 4.9 m high. The adjoining choir is 6.0 m long, 4.6 m wide and 4.4 m high. The Romanesque triumphal arch was converted into a pointed arch during the Gothic period. The corbels of the Romanesque triumphal arch were reused in the substructure of the tower.

Furnishing

The base of the altar consists of ashlar stones. The altar panel bears the inscription on the back: Mandrup Parsberg thil Hagesholm lod denne Taffle mall och sitte her i Houlbiere Kiercke. Aar efter Gudth Byrdt 1589. The altar, which was probably made for the church of Houlbjerg in what is now Langå municipality , probably came to Vive in 1608. The painting on the front is drawn with LLVH FECIT 1608 . The main picture shows the crucifixion, the north wing the resurrection, the south wing the ascension of Christ. The altarpiece is also from 1608.

The altar panels were painted over in 1875 and in 1940 by the church painter Johs. Th. Madsens uncovered and restored. The last restoration took place in 1995.

On the front of the Romanesque font there is a lion relief with pointed ears. A Green Man is sitting on him relatively far back - he has the legs of a rider, which end upwards instead of into a body in an arkanthus leaf. The back of the baptismal font shows a snake bent three times, pointing its head and tongue towards the lion's head. This symbolism means the threat to the lion, who symbolizes virtue, by the snake (the primeval cattle, the Leviatan). A crucifix from around 1500 hangs above the baptismal font and to the left of the triumphal arch . The cross itself still has the original setting, the setting of the body dates from the 18th century. The gilding was done in 1941 by Th. Madsen.

The votive ship Dana made Nelly and HP Venslev, Stone Lime Mill, 1949, the church as a gift. The chandelier acquired in 1913 was financed by women of the community by selling handicrafts made over the winter.
