North Jutland

Location of North Jutland (black) and Northwest Jutland (green) in Denmark

North Jutland (Danish Nordjylland ) comprises the areas of Jutland north of the Limfjord plus Himmerland , marked in black on the map. Depending on the context, a distinction is made between Northwest Jutland (marked in green on the map) consisting of the Thy peninsula , the islands of Mors and Fur and the Salling headland . Both areas together are geographically only approximately congruent with the administrative region of North Jutland , for example this also includes the city of Mariager .

On the other hand, there is uncertainty as to whether and how far northwest Jutland extends into the administrative region of Central Jutland . The towns of Lemvig , Struer and Holstebro are obvious candidates.

North Jutland should not be confused with the historic landscape called Norderjutland / Northern Jutland (Danish: Nørrejylland ) . This describes the entire land area north of the Königsau .

World map of suspected shale gas deposits

geology

Larger deposits of shale gas are suspected in North Jutland's mudstone formations . Trial drilling ( fracking ) was carried out in 2015 in the village of Dybvad . A subsidy does not seem to be profitable given the current market development.
