The law regulating the exit from churches, religious communities and ideological communities under public law (Church Exit Act - KiAustrG) regulates the exit from a church or from another religious community or ideological community under public law with effect for the state in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

It dates from May 26, 1981 ( GV. NW. S. 260 / SGV. NRW. 222) and was changed by the Second Law on Limiting the State Law of North Rhine-Westphalia of April 5, 2005 (GV. NRW. S. 274) .

Exit costs

As a result of a new regulation, there have been costs for leaving for the first time since 2006. The fee of 30 euros is levied by the Justice Administration Costs Act (JVKostG NRW) . The state parliament assumed 60,000 resignations per year and additional income for the state of 1.8 million euros. A constitutional complaint was filed against the law in 2006, which the Federal Constitutional Court rejected in 2008. The court pointed out that the state's exit from the church could only be reliably recorded through a formal procedure.

As a rule, the declaration must be made at the district court in whose district the declaring person is domiciled . The fee can be reduced or waived for social reasons.
