The Kirchenburgmuseum is an open-air museum in Mönchsondheim in Franconia in the southeast of the Kitzingen district in the Steigerwald foreland .

history

The history of the fortified church museum began before the 1970s. At that time Otto Beck from Mainstockheim collected folklore objects and established first contacts with Fritz Endres from Mönchsondheim. In 1975 the association “Fränkisches Bauern- und Handwerkermuseum Kirchenburg Mönchsondheim e. V. “founded. Besides Beck and Endres, the initiator was Rudolf Schöpfel from Hohenfeld . A year later, 26 owners from Gaden left their houses in the fortified church of the city of Iphofen free of charge.

The fortified church has been used for a farmers' and crafts museum since 1981 . The museum includes a one-class school from 1927, the town hall from 1557, the inn from 1790 with a large agricultural yard and the centerpiece of the fortified church from the 15th to 19th centuries.

Description of the buildings

In the center of the village are grouped around the Bonifatiuskirche, which was built as a fortified church in 1688, and small Gaden

The baroque inn "Zum Schwarzen Adler", built in 1790, was run as a sideline with agriculture and livestock, had its own vineyards and its own brewery. Furnished with original furniture in the style of 1920, it preserves 200 years of tradition as a village inn and is now used for special exhibitions in the open-air museum.

The bowling alley from 1909 is in its original condition. The yard, which originally belonged to the inn, presents a collection of historical agricultural implements. The school museum is located in the former village school house.

The town hall in the Franconian half-timbered house from 1557 houses the historic community bakery.

Permanent exhibition

The exhibition in the Gaden of the fortified church was renovated between 2013 and 2015. The permanent exhibition was also renewed. Today the permanent exhibition is divided into three areas. On the one hand, the history and the spread of fortified churches are discussed. On the other hand, one looks at the development of a Franconian village based on Mönchsondheim. Viticulture , which is widespread in the Kitzingen district , is considered as well as the craft in rural areas.
