The Church Academy of Teacher Training in Obermarchtal is a further and advanced training institute of the church foundation of public law with legal capacity of the Catholic Free School of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart . The academy building has been located in a wing of the former imperial abbey of the Premonstratensian St. Peter and Paul in Obermarchtal in the Alb-Danube district in Upper Swabia since 1978 .

The academy is the only church-sponsored academy for teacher training in Germany and is located in an architecturally self-contained and completely preserved baroque monastery complex in Upper Swabia.

Marchtaler plan and distance learning

The organization of lessons and the specific lesson planning at Marchtaler Plan Schools is linked to the following four structural elements:

The prerequisite for a Marchtal distance learning course is a completed teaching degree at any type of school. The duration of study for a course is approximately sixteen months. The studies consist of nine practical seminars in the academy and nine study letters at home. The Marchtaler Fernstudien group consists of Catholic teachers who are particularly interested in a holistic and personal education that is rooted in the Catholic faith. A certificate confirms successful participation in the Marchtaler distance learning.

'Marchtaler Window - New Art'

The Academy of Teacher Training in Obermarchtal has been organizing the Marchtaler Windows exhibition series since 1993 - New Art in the courtyard of the baroque monastery in Obermarchtal . The "Marchtaler Window" sees itself as an exhibition platform for contemporary sculpture from Baden-Württemberg . In annual exhibitions, works by artists living and working in Baden-Württemberg are shown. The sculptures and installations created for the outside space are open to the public during the academy's opening hours and enrich the place of education for teachers, which is also visited by travelers who take the Oberschwäbische Barockstraße to Obermarchtal.
