The Kirkcowan Parish Church is a church building of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in the Scottish village of Kirkcowan in the Council Area Dumfries and Galloway . In 1972 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

Before the current parish church was built, there was an older church building in Kirkcowan, believed to date from the 17th or 18th century. With the construction of the Kirkcowan Parish Church in 1834, the Kirkcowan Old Parish Church became obsolete. Today it is only preserved as a listed ruin.

The Kirkcowan Parish Church is located in the center of the small village. It has a roughly T-shaped floor plan. The masonry of the neo-Gothic building consists of quarry stone with polished natural stone surrounds made of sandstone . On the north side is a squat, three-story bell tower with a square floor plan. It ends with a crenellated parapet and corner pinnacles . The entrance area is on the northeast side. The gable above is decorated with a finial . The gallery is directly accessible via front stairs with simple cast-iron railings on the north-east and south-west sides. Various simple, pointed-arched tracery , each consisting of two pointed-arched windows, are embedded along the facade . The final gable roof is covered with slate.
