Kirkliston is a town in the Scottish Council Area Edinburgh . It is located approximately eight miles west of Edinburgh city center and south of Dunfermline . The south bank of the Firth of Forth runs about four kilometers north and Edinburgh Airport is about one kilometer away. In 2011 Kirkliston had 3386 inhabitants.
While there used to be a textile industry in Kirkliston, today it is essentially a commuter settlement with no industry of its own. Between 1795 and 1910, Kirkliston was the location of the Kirkliston whiskey distillery . After it was closed, the connected malt house was in operation for many years.
