Kirsten Bråten Berg

Kirsten Bråten Berg (* 1950 in Arendal ) is a Norwegian folk singer.

Berg completed his training as a silversmith in Oslo and has been running a workshop in Setesdal since 1973 . Her career as a folk singer began in 1970 when she attended a course with Agnes Buen Garnås . She became known for traditional Norwegian singing, the kveding . She performed all over Norway and made several albums. She has been awarded the Spellemannpris , the annual prize of the Norwegian record industry, several times , in 1987 she won the Landskappleik , the competition in traditional Norwegian music.

Around 1990 she met Arild Andersen , with whom she has since recorded several albums. In 1996, the album Frå Senegal Til Setesdal was created in collaboration with the Senegalese musicians Solo Cissokho and Kouame Sereba . In 1997 she was awarded the Radka Toneff Minnepris . Since 2000 she has been active in the Ensemble Stemmenes Skygge (Shadow of Voices), which also includes the Danish Marilyn Mazur and the Swede Lena Willemark .
