Kirsten Oswald

Kirsten Oswald (born December 21, 1972 in Dundee ) is a Scottish politician of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Oswald was born in Dundee in 1972 but grew up in Carnoustie . She attended Carlogie Primary School and Carnoustie High School . After graduation, Oswald studied history at the University of Glasgow . She worked in human resources. In 2008 Oswald moved to the East Renfrewshire Council Area and lives in Clarkston . She is married and a mother of two.

Political career

Oswald joined the SNP in June 2014. In her region, she campaigned for the referendum on Scottish independence . In January 2015, she was confirmed as the SNP candidate for the 2015 UK general election in the East Renfrewshire constituency . She stood against Labor MP Jim Murphy , who has represented the constituency in the British House of Commons since 2005 .

In the run-up to the elections, Oswald's election campaign was controversial. In this she wrote specifically to voters of the Conservative Party and asked for their votes in order to break the supremacy of the Labor Party in the constituency. She defended her approach on the grounds that the Conservatives were using similar tactics. After the SNP gained massive votes in these elections, Oswald achieved the highest share of the vote with 40.6% and subsequently entered the House of Commons for the first time.

With a loss of votes, Oswald lost her mandate in the early general election in 2017 . This went to the Conservative candidate, Paul Masterton . In the 2019 general election , she won back the mandate.
