The Church of Kiruna ( Swedish Kiruna kyrka ) in Kiruna in northern Sweden was built between 1903 and 1912 according to plans by the architect Gustaf Wickman .

Building

The church, one of the most remarkable buildings of Swedish national romantic architecture, combines American wooden architecture with influences from Norwegian stave churches and Sami Koten . In the design of the church participated u. a. Prinz Eugen with an altarpiece and Christian Eriksson with Georg as the dragon slayer , a relief on the facade and twelve statues on the roof, which symbolize human feelings, including tenderness, love, pity and despair.

The relocation master plan presented in 2014 envisages a gradual relocation of the city of Kiruna by 2033 in order to be able to mine the iron ore deposits below the city. The church is to be completely preserved and moved to a new location.
