Kishanganj is a city in the Indian state of Bihar .
The city is the administrative seat of the district of the same name . Kishanganj is about 389 km from Bihar's capital Patna and close to the border with West Bengal . Kishanganj has the status of a City Council ( Nagar parishad ). The city is divided into 34 wards .
Demographics
The city's population is 105,782 according to the 2011 census. Kishanganj has a gender ratio of 918 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The literacy rate was 73.46% in 2011. Almost 55% of the population are Hindus , approx. 43% are Muslims and approx. 1% are Jainas . 16% of the population are children under 6 years of age.
Infrastructure
Kishanganj has a large train station that connects the city to major cities in India. Kishanganj Station is part of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) and is a Category A station on Indian Railways .
In addition, the National Highway 31 connects the city with three other states.
