Kissidougou is the capital of the Kissidougou prefecture in the Faranah region in Guinea and has about 100,000 inhabitants (as of 2014).
geography
The city is located on the Niandan River in a plain in southeast Guinea in the Forest Guinea area . Sierra Leone begins 50 kilometers west and Liberia 70 kilometers south .
climate
The internal climate in Kissidougou is characterized by relatively high daytime temperatures (30 to 37 ° Celsius) and lower night temperatures (8 to 18 ° Celsius). Most precipitation falls from April to October, from November to March there are only a few days of precipitation.
history
The city has been known since the 18th century and is mostly inhabited by the Kissi people. Around 1890 she became a French outpost in the fight against the Malinkian war leader Samory Touré .
Since the 1990s, and especially in the years 2000 to 2001, thousands of refugees from the war regions of Sierra Leone and Liberia came to the city. In the suburb Albadariah which UNHCR set up a refugee camp. Women and children in particular live there in precarious conditions, and sexual assaults occurred. Shortly afterwards, most of the refugees returned to their countries of origin.

economy
The city is surrounded by a lot of fertile agricultural land. Regional agricultural products such as rice, cassava and fruits are sold at the market in the city, and some of them are also processed into beverages.

The national road N1 runs straight through the city, the N6 runs from the city center in an easterly direction and the N31 in a northerly direction. There is one airport, Kissidougou Airport.
