Kiyoto Fujiwara

Kiyoto Fujiwara ( Jap. 藤原清登 , Fujiwara Kiyoto * 1953 in Takamatsu , Kagawa Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz - bassist .

life and work

Fujiwara's parents were musicians, and he started playing bass when he was 17. He studied with Professor Seiichi Imamura at the Tokyo Art School . He continued his studies in 1974 in the USA at the Berklee College of Music . After graduation, he studied at the Juilliard School with John A. Schaeffer, where he graduated in 1984.

In 1975 Fujiwara played with Horace Silver , in 1986 with Archie Shepp , was otherwise "freelance" and recorded records with Gunter Hampel , Fred Ho , Thomas Chapin , Dan Rose and others. In 1984 he founded the formation Manhattan Graffiti Four (MG4) with Kenny Garrett , Peter Madsen and Shunsuke Fuke , with whom he also toured Japan several times and played at festivals.
